IRL location tracker

A minimap centred on you, with no street names, that shows nothing until a safe home point is set.

Showing your location on stream is the most dangerous thing you can put on stream. The tracker is built to stay hidden unless it is sure it is safe. Read this page before you use it, and test it before you go live.

The tracker is a small round or rounded-square map with no labels, centred on your live position with a blue dot. Viewers cannot move or zoom it. You can turn on a mode that rotates the map to the way you are facing.

How it keeps you safe

When the tracker is blank

A blank tracker is normal. It hides itself when:

It never falls back to an old or raw position. It needs WebGL in the browser source. If the map service stops answering after the map has started, the tracker keeps the tiles it already has and may show gaps. Check it now and then while you are live.

In the builder

The preview at the top shows a sample location in your chosen style. It never uses your real home or GPS. Test the real blackout and live tracking on your own device with the copied link.

Home & safety (required)

Your home point
Latitude, longitude. Required. Use my location fills it in. It is kept in your browser only. If it is not valid you see Enter a valid latitude, longitude (e.g. 37.7749, -122.4194) to generate the URL.
Home blackout radius · metres
At least 150. The start is 750.
Where does the position come from?
This device (browser GPS), Fixed coordinates (testing / OBS-CEF) or RTIRL pull key (off-device rigs). An RTIRL key goes to RTIRL’s own service on every check, and its position is polled every three seconds.

Map & style

Shape
Round or Rounded square.
Size (px)
From 80 to 1000. The start is 240.
Position
One of nine spots. The start is bottom-left.
Zoom, Max zoom
Zoom starts at 14 and goes up to 16. Max zoom starts at 15.
Hide if no fix for · seconds
From 1 to 600. The start is 20. With an RTIRL key, an unchanged position counts as fresh for about three minutes, then ages.
Coarsen shown point · metres
0 is off. It rounds the shown position to a coarser grid, and the blackout checks both the exact and the rounded position.
Rotate map to my heading (GTA-style)
Off to start, so north is up. RTIRL gives no heading, so it has no effect there.
Debug readout (troubleshooting)
Draws a small label with the reason the map is hidden. It never prints coordinates, but it does show on stream, so turn it off before you go live.

The link

Copy URL and Open stay off until your home point is valid. The page warns: This URL contains your home point — treat the whole thing like a password. Don’t paste it in public, don’t share your OBS scene collection, and don’t screen-share the OBS dock. It also warns while Debug is ticked.

In OBS

Set the source size to match the map size. The browser needs location access, or use fixed coordinates or an RTIRL key. If the overlay needs WebGL and the browser source has none, nothing shows.

Privacy

The map picture comes from OpenFreeMap, which needs no key. That means the map host can see your device’s IP address and the area of the map you are viewing, which is your route. Your home point and settings stay in the link after the #.

Advanced: change it in the link

Secret settings, home, lat, lon and rtirl, only work after the #. The tracker goes blank if they appear after a ?.
