Chat Plinko

A transparent Plinko board your viewers drop balls on by typing a command in your Kick chat.

A viewer types the drop command in your Kick chat and a ball drops from the top of the board in their name and chat color. It bounces through the pegs into a scoring slot, and the slot’s number shows as points. Each viewer’s points add up on a scoreboard in an upper corner, and each landing also adds a line to a list of recent scores in the other upper corner. The board is transparent, so it sits over your video. It only reads your public chat and never posts.

What viewers and mods type

!drop
Anyone in chat. Drops one ball. By default a viewer can have one ball queued or falling at a time, and new drops are refused once 30 are waiting.
The drop emote
Anyone in chat, once you set one in the builder. A message that starts with that emote drops one ball just as !drop does, in the viewer’s name and chat color and with the same limits, so viewers can play while your chat is in emote-only mode. !drop keeps working.
!plinko off
You and your mods only. Hides the board and clears the balls and the queue.
!plinko on
You and your mods only. Shows the board again.
!plinko
You and your mods only. Flips the board between shown and hidden. A viewer who types it is ignored.
!scoreboard
You and your mods only. Shows the scoreboard large, with the board shrunk beside it, for 15 seconds, then the board comes back and the scoreboard goes back to its corner. Typing it again while it is up starts the time over. A viewer who types it is ignored.
!scoreboard reset
You and your mods only. Clears everyone’s points. They also start again whenever the overlay is opened or reloaded.

All three commands can be changed in the builder.

In the builder

Kick channel
Just the channel name. It is turned to lower case for you. The box under Your overlay URL stays empty, with a warning, until you have added it.
Drop command, Show/hide command, Scoreboard command
1 to 24 letters, digits or underscores, and may start with !. The three must differ. A blank box keeps !drop, !plinko and !scoreboard. The ⓘ button opens the full note.
Drop emote (optional)
An emote that drops a ball like the drop command does. Type its name as Kick’s emote picker shows it, such as lurk24plinko, or its number: 1 to 24 letters, digits, _ or -. A name with colons round it is read without them. Blank, the start, means no drop emote. A bad entry is left out of the link, with a warning.
Peg rows
A list from 8 to 16. The start is 10. The board has one more scoring slot than rows.
Difficulty
Low, Medium, High or Expert: how much more the edge slots score than the middle one. The start is Medium, which is 1 in the middle and doubles toward each edge. The scores for the rows you chose show under the two lists.
Seconds between drops
A list from 0 to 30. The start is 0.6.
Balls in the air at once
A list from 1 to 50. The start is 8.
Balls per viewer
How many one viewer may have queued or falling. A list from 1 to 10. The start is 1.
Waiting drops allowed
New drops are refused once this many wait. A list from 5 to 200. The start is 30.
Scoreboard
On by default. Turn it off to hide the scoreboard and the large view, and to make the scoreboard command do nothing.
Corner
Upper right or upper left. The start is upper right. The large view puts the scoreboard on the same side and the board on the other. The recent scores take the other upper corner.
Viewers listed in the corner
3, 5, 8 or 10. The start is 5. The large view lists up to 10.
Large view lasts
10, 15, 20, 30, 45 or 60 seconds. The start is 15.
Recent scores
On by default. Each ball that lands adds the viewer’s name and points at the top of a list in the upper corner opposite the scoreboard’s, and the older ones move down. The list fades out while the scoreboard is shown large. Turn it off to hide the list.
Events shown
1, 2, 3, 5, 8 or 10. The start is 5. Once that many show, a new one pushes the oldest off.
Each event stays
5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 30 or 60 seconds. The start is 10. An event fades out and leaves when its time is up.
Show
Ball takes the viewer’s chat color, viewer name on the ball, points when a ball lands and a glow around balls start on. Peg and landing sounds and Start hidden start off. With Start hidden, you or a mod show the board with the show/hide command.
Peg size, Ball size
A list from 50 to 250 percent. The start is 100.
Peg color, Slot color, Text color, Ball color
Pick each color. The ball color is used when the viewer’s color is off or missing. The slot color is the color of the score tiles at the edges of the board, and the tiles turn toward yellow as they near the middle; the start is red, which runs from red at the edges through orange to gold in the middle.
Solid background
Off by default, which keeps the board transparent. Turn it on to pick a background color.
Font
A font installed on the computer that runs the source. Letters, digits, spaces, commas, - and _ only.

The preview at the top plays demo balls with your settings and reads no chat. Open runs the real overlay on your channel. The link only carries settings that differ from the start, and everything in it is after the #, which browsers never send to a server. See the Privacy page for what Dual IRL collects, and Add a tool to OBS for the browser source.

The raw page

Open dualirl.com/tools/plinko.html with no settings and demo balls drop in a loop, with a short how-to panel at the bottom right. Once a Kick channel is set, the demo stops and the board waits for chat.
